Credit Cards are now business essentials
Something that no business can do
without is a business credit card. You can use it for all those everyday
expenses that your business needs to keep running day in day out. From office
stationary to paying for a meeting with a client out
somewhere, it’s just something
that you need nowadays in order to help streamline your business.
Most business owners, both big
and small know how frustrating it can be when your company has no cash due
either the speed of “snail-mail” or the time that it takes for a check to
clear. Along with this, they also know how it feels when paying for something
can take them an age as well. During your wait for the money to come in and also
go out, your business still needs money to run, and if you’re only a small
business then that money needed to run the business everyday could be the same
money that’s on that check that’s making it’s way to you slowly through
the postal system.
This is when you need your credit
card the most, so that you can pay for these things that you need even when you
don’t have the cash on hand. This is why it can be such an essential tool for
your business, as well as the fact that you could also use it to pay for once
off pieces of office equipment and other purchases.
Another good thing is that some
cards will offer you additional buyer protection, which, when put simply is like
a second warranty on equipment that you have bought with the card. This can be
another good reason to use the card for some of those once off payments,
especially as sometimes the additional buyer protection can be more generous
that the warranty that is already on the equipment. Another reason is that it
offers you the chance for long-term payment options of purchases of small
equipment, something that you only get in the shops if you’re buying something
big. This helps to make sure that your cash flow doesn’t have to be stunted
should you need some new equipment.
If you own an expanding business,
chances are that you’ll need more staff, and that some of these staff will
need to make business expenses. These people also really need to have a business
credit card to deal with the expenses that they incur.
Using business credit cards in
this case is a much easier to handle option than a petty cash book, everything
that was bought on the card will be listed at the end of the month, making the
book-keeping part a piece of cake.
As well as the fact that it is
easier to handle and therefore generates less mistakes, you won’t be in any
danger of an employee skimming off the top. With the old petty cash book, an
employee can easily change the expense report so it looks as if they have paid
more than they actually have and take the extra for themselves. This is
impossible to do with a credit card as all of the purchases are digitally
recorded and cannot be changed, which cuts out that problem entirely.
Using
your business credit card will help your business improve its credit rating;
just as using a personal credit card increases your personal credit rating. It
is an important part of building your business as it gives out a good
professional image of your business and will also let you take out bigger loans
in the future when you need to expand. Ratings given to your business, such as
the Dun & Bradstreet rating will take into account your credit rating, so be
sure that you build it up in any way that you can.
